Competition Judges

Chan Suk Yan, Betty

Betty graduated in her music Master Degree from the Hong Kong Baptist University, majoring in Piano Pedagogy.  Before her Master Degree, Betty graduated from the Kingston University in London, majoring in Piano Performance.  Besides music degree, she also got her Diploma in Child Psychology in The Open University of Hong Kong. Betty acquired the Licentiate Diploma in piano performance of Trinity College London (L.T.C.L.); Diploma in piano performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music; and Piano, Electone, and Fundamentals (Teacher Grade) Examinations of Yamaha Music Foundation in Japan.  She is very experienced in teaching piano, electone and music theory.  Betty had participated the 7th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education in Shanghai to share her music research study. Betty’s students were awarded in different kinds of competitions in public.  Besides teaching piano and electone, she is a member of Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd. (CASH), frequently involved in music composing and piano accompaniment.  She has been invited to be adjudicator in many different kinds of music contests.

Tse Karana Karen

Chairman of Hong Kong (China) Music and Culture, Principal of String & Keyboard Musik Education School (Beijing), String & Keyboard Musik Programme’s establisher.

Tse Karana Karen graduated from Capilano University with a Master degree in music therapy. In addition, Karana obtained numerous formal certifications, including Certified Examination of piano with honors, Certified ARCT performance diploma with first class honors, Vienna Music Examination Board Performance TMPZ in 2000, violin and harp with the Royal Conservatory of Music (Canada) in 2001, and lastly acquired her LRSM diploma with ABRSM in 2010. Furthering her professional performance training, Karana studied at the Elder Conservatory of Music (Australia) for Performance Recital, well as completing the Performance Diploma at the Trinity College of Music (London) in 2010.

As a music teacher and a professional performer certified examiner with both the UK and Canadian music board, Karana frequently held solo recital performances at the Hong Kong Arts Centre and the Hong Kong City Hall. Karana judged open music festivals and competitions as well as organized numerous annual student concerts in an effort to help increase on her students’ discipline and help build their confidence through competitive performing environments.

Firmly believing in her philanthropic duties, Karana has founded the Hong Kong & China Music and Culture Organization, a non-profit educational cultural and charitable organization focusing on bringing musical exposures to under privileged children.
