Competition Judges

Chan Suk Yan, Betty

Betty graduated in her music Master Degree from the Hong Kong Baptist University, majoring in Piano Pedagogy.  Before her Master Degree, Betty graduated from the Kingston University in London, majoring in Piano Performance.  Besides music degree, she also got her Diploma in Child Psychology in The Open University of Hong Kong. Betty acquired the Licentiate Diploma in piano performance of Trinity College London (L.T.C.L.); Diploma in piano performance from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music; and Piano, Electone, and Fundamentals (Teacher Grade) Examinations of Yamaha Music Foundation in Japan.  She is very experienced in teaching piano, electone and music theory.  In 2009, Betty had participated the 7th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education in Shanghai to share her music research study. Betty’s students were awarded in different kinds of competitions in public.  Besides teaching piano and electone, she is a member of Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd. (CASH), frequently involved in music composing and piano accompaniment.  She has been invited to be adjudicator in many different kinds of music contests.

Liu Chi Man M.A.

Liu Chi Man graduated from the Sir Robert Black College of Education, majoring in Music. He was the accompanist of Tuen Mun Children Choir from 1986, and he led the choir to perform in many festivals and in the shows on TV. At the meantime, he started teaching piano, and being the adjudicator in many music competitions. Liu Chi Man was the music teacher in primary school in 80’s and 90’s, he used to lead the school choir and his students were being awarded in many contests. He graduated from Kingston University in London, majoring in Piano Performance in 1990s. Later he pursued further education on Music Style and Theory Analysis in Chinese University of Hong Kong, and then he finished his Music Master Degree of Piano Pedagogy in Hong Kong Baptist University. He was the Lecturer of associate students in music field and he has been invited to be adjudicator in music contest organized by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals since 2006. Liu Chi Man now is a full time piano teacher, specialized in teaching higher grade and diploma in piano, music theory and piano accompaniment, Mr Liu also teaches courses of Early Childhood Music Education in the School of Continuing Education in Hong Kong Baptist University.

Karen Ka Wun Tse

Karen Ka Wun Tse studied and graduated at CapilanoUniversity in 2003 with the focus of music therapy. As a teacher, examiner and professional piano player, she completed Certified Examination in piano grade 10 with honors and Certified ARCT performance diploma with first class honors in earlier years. Then she studied at the Elder Conservatory of music (Australian) for performance and recital (seminar) in December 2010 to February 2011, and then she successfully completed the recital diploma (London) at the Trinity College Of Music, London, and received diploma in December 2011, and later she successfully completed the examiner exam at the Associated Board Of The Royal School of Music (London) in 2012. Karen is an energetic and motivating teacher with proven ability to effectively manage both personnel and students, which shown with her abounding teaching experience in private lessons and Hong Kong Academy of Performing arts, and her recital at LONDON Queen Elizabeth Hall in 2011.
